Kumar Lewis

I met Kumar Lewis at a Parties for Peace event at the Pink Cow in Shibuya on February 18. I thought he was a really cool guy.

Then while I was in New Zealand last month I heard that he had been killed in Africa. Check out all the awesome things he did during his life at http://www.kumarlewis.com.

This kind of thing makes me realize the importance of "capturing the moment" and the power of being able to share such moments with others.

Tim,

My name is Chinmaya Lewis and I am Kumar's brother. I randomly found your post and was happy to see you sharing your thoughts about Kumar. It has been quite a tragedy for us. Kumar was a great brother and friend to many. His positive presence will be missed but always remembered. I was excited to see that you had posted a video as well but my pc doesn't seem to be able to play it. Any suggestions?

Hi Chinmaya, thanks for making contact. I only met Kumar once, but he was the kind of person that makes a big impression because he was so full of life and love for people.

He stood out to me the whole night at the party, so I took the video and actually asked his permission to eventually put it on the Internet.

The video needs Quicktime to play. You can download Quicktime for Windows here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html.

You can also right click on the video and select Save Target As in Internet Explorer to download the file, or just click on the video picture and it will open in a new window. It will take a while to download if you have slow Internet.

Anyway, let me know if you still have problems and I will send you a copy on DVD or something.

Tim,

I downloaded the new quicktime player and then was able to view your video of Kumar at the party. We have pictures of that party as well. They may be from Kumar's camera or they were sent to us. Thanks so much for putting this up and mentioning Kumar on your blog. As you say, he was full of life. While he may not be with us physically anymore, his spirit lives on in his family and friends throughout the world. Whether brief encounters or life long relationships Kumar is fun person to know and be around. He always strived to put his good energy out into the world and pass it on to people he knew or came in contact with. I think your video is another example of this. Again, thank you very much for capturing that moment and making it available for me, and others, to watch. This will be another momento that I will be able to share with my son Dylan, Kumar's nephew, when he is older.

Sincerely,
Chinmaya - Kumar's brother
