Akiyoshido

Akiyoshido is a large tourist cave in Akiyoshidai, an area with hundreds of limestone caves in central Yamaguchi Prefecture, in the south of Japan. The tourist caves were nice, but the caves hidden away in the hills were amazing! One took us ages to find, but it was worth it. Too dark for good mobile phone video though!

This video features the song "Sick of Chicks" by Brother Love, provided by the Podshow Podsafe Music Network.

Hey, I'm living in Yamaguchi-ken right now and I went to Akiyoshido recently, but knew nothing of other caves in the area. How did you go about finding them?

I went with a Tokyo caving club and they had maps to lots of caves there. There are two caving clubs in Tokyo that I know of and they often do big trips together. Some of the caves were locked and required picking up a key from a local villager, and one took us a long time walking all over a hill to find the entrance. The locals at Akiyoshido should be able to provide maps or info on the other non-tourist caves in the area. There appear to be hundreds of caves on the maps I saw of the area.
